Serenbe’s ducks get a lot of attention. And why wouldn’t they? They’re cute! But did you know there’s an epic love story behind them?
Serenbe’s ducks get a lot of attention. And why wouldn’t they? They’re cute! But did you know there’s an epic love story behind them?
Six years ago, Gabby was the lone duck in the Inn at Serenbe lake. After a year of swimming solo, a Serenbe resident took it upon himself to find a companion for Gabby. He (the resident, not Gabby) located Rosie - an adult female Pekin duck - in South Georgia and brought her back to Serenbe.
Rosie and Gabby soon mated, and since their first ducklings there have been many, many more. Hence, the multitude of quacks you get to hear as you walk the winding road by the lake up to The Inn at Serenbe! If you’re walking by and would like to give the ducks a treat, please don’t feed them bread or human snacks. They enjoy cracked corn, halved grapes, or canned corn or peas (all in very small portions!).
