Art Over Dinner with Author Daren Wang
Director Emeritus of the Decatur Book Festival
Sunday, March 11th
Cocktails + Artist Talk, 6pm
In February, 2005 Daren Wang hatched a hare-brained idea to establish a festival celebrating the spoken/written word. He enlisted other dreamers and doers who had hatched versions of the same idea including Tom Bell, Linda Harris, Richard Lenz, Alice Murray, Bill Starr and Judy Turner. Together, using a stone soup model, everyone brought what they had and the magic began brewing.
The AJC Decatur Book Festival is the largest independent book festival in the country and one of the five largest overall. Since its launch, more than 1,000 world-class authors and hundreds of thousands of festival-goers have crowded the historic downtown Decatur square to enjoy book signings, author readings, panel discussions, an interactive children’s area, live music, parades, cooking demonstrations, poetry slams, writing workshops, and more.
Daren Wang was born in Buffalo, New York. In 1971, his parents bought the Willis property in Town Line, New York and made the family home in the converted barn and rented out the main house.
He is the founding Executive Director of AJC Decatur Book Festival, now in its twelfth year.
As a public radio producer, he produced and or hosted several series including The Spoken Word, Porches: The South and Her Writers, Circle of Friends, Between the Lines, ArtVoice, and Atlanta Forum.
His writing has appeared in Paste Magazine, Five Points Magazine, the Atlanta Journal Constitution, AJC Travel, The Saporta Report, and others. He published the short-lived audio magazine Verb:An Audioquarterly. The Hidden Light of Northern Fires is his first novel.
He is a graduate of Cornell University and lives in Decatur with his wife Eva.

Art Over Dinner is a series of intimate gatherings with artists and the organizations that support their work. We collaborate with the chefs at HomespunATL and local farmers to bring a seasonal meal that showcases winemakers and brewers, and invite our guest artists to spark the conversation at one long farm table on the outdoor deck of The Art Farm at Serenbe.
Art Farm at Serenbe is a vibrant artist complex that provides a place for engagement and inspiration. It serves as Serenbe’s central place for artists, the arts and culture. This complex is deeply rooted in process, education and creating multiple platforms for creativity. Artists, practitioners and researchers come here to deepen their practice and broaden their creative connections.
